How My Business Started

The idea for Next Up Athlete came after I had a conversation with a neighbor. I was giving him recruiting advice for his daughter. We discussed strategies, and he suggested that I go into business. In 2013, I launched Next Up Athlete in St. Charles, Missouri.

About Me

I’ve been involved with athletic recruiting since going through the process myself as an athlete back in 1986. I’ve personally experienced the recruiting process from all angles — as an athlete, a coach, a talent evaluator, and a marketer of athletes.

As an athlete, I was fortunate enough to play for a football coach who is an inductee in the Illinois State High School Hall of Fame. As a class, we had a 37-1 record and won a state championship along the way. I had opportunities to play in college because of the superior coaching I received.

I served as an assistant softball coach at a high school in Portland, Oregon for two seasons under a coach whose resume included a collegiate national championship and more than 40 years’ experience in teaching the game. I learned many valuable lessons, and I know what coaches have to sacrifice to succeed in their sport.

I was fortunate to own a franchise for a large recruiting service that allowed me to understand the process from an entirely different view. I gained valuable information on trends, analytics, and important information that athletes and parents must know.

As a marketer of student athletes, I have learned what it takes to maximize efforts and avoid common mistakes that can lead to missed opportunities. 

What Makes Me Better Than My Competitors

I don’t own a large company where a client is just a file number. I keep my clients’ costs at a minimum while

providing top-quality services.

Additionally, the personal relationships I build with my clients and college coaches are something

my competitors can’t duplicate.
